A light 34 cm mower that folds to stand upright or hang on a wall, runs quietly, and comes with a 4.0Ah POWER FOR ALL pack and charger. The best-reviewed mower here by the critics who tested it.
Why it's number one: The mower the critics rate highest: 5 out of 5 from Expert Reviews and Ideal Home, 4.5 from Trusted Reviews and 79 out of 100 from CHOICE, for a light, quiet 34 cm brushless mower that folds upright and comes with a 4.0Ah POWER FOR ALL pack and charger. Its Amazon AU owner rating rests on only four reviews, which is why the critic evidence carries it.
Buy this one if you have a small to medium lawn, limited storage and a preference for quiet, and you want the mower that outside reviewers rated highest. It cuts a 34 cm strip, with four heights from 30 to 65 mm on one central lever, catches into a 30 L box, mulches with the BioClip plug supplied or discharges out the back, and folds its handle to stand upright or hang from the wall hook in the box, which makes it easy to fit into a crowded shed. Four allowlisted outlets have reviewed this exact model: Expert Reviews and Ideal Home both gave it 5 out of 5, Trusted Reviews 4.5, and CHOICE 79 out of 100. The kit includes a 4.0Ah battery and charger on the POWER FOR ALL standard, so the same pack runs Bosch's green 18V tools, including both Bosch Rotak mowers on this page. The weak point is the owner evidence on Amazon AU: four reviews averaging 3.4 stars, one of them from an owner whose mower stopped working at five months. Husqvarna rates it for lawns up to 500 m² but publishes no area per charge. Consider the Bosch Rotak 18V-32 instead if you already own a POWER FOR ALL pack and want a cheaper bare deck, or a wider two-pack mower if your lawn takes more than one charge.

How we scored it
Each measure is marked against the category's rubric, where 10 is the best you can buy, 8 is strong, 6 is basic but sound and 4 falls short. The bars show that mark on the Top7 scale (a 6 reads as 7.0, an 8 as 8.5); the notes quote the rubric mark.
Cutting 8.5 (rubric 8): Card: 34 cm (7), plus 0.5 for the brushless motor and 0.5 for all three ways with clippings (catch, the BioClip mulching plug in the box, rear discharge with the catcher off); lowest cut 30 mm, so no low-cut bonus.
Coverage 8.5 (rubric 8): Card: POWER FOR ALL is shared across brands (6), plus 1.5 for the 4.0Ah pack and 0.5 for the charger in the kit; Husqvarna gives a 500 m² lawn size but no per-charge area, so no area bonus.
Handling 9.3 (rubric 9): Card: 11.5 kg without bag or battery (8), plus 0.5 for one central height lever and 0.5 for a folding handle with upright or wall-hung storage; the 30 L catcher is under the 45 L bonus.
Build 8.5 (rubric 8): Card: ABS plastic deck, Husqvarna's 2-year domestic warranty and its Australian dealer network: the 8 anchor.

Rank #2
Bosch Rotak 18V2-43 Brushless 2 x 18V Lawn Mower (Kit, 2 x 4.0Ah)
Our Verdict
A 43 cm brushless mower that runs on two 18V POWER FOR ALL packs at once, with a 50 L catcher you can empty one-handed and two 4.0Ah packs in the box. The widest deck on the Bosch green battery.
Buy this one if your lawn is medium to large and you want to stay on the POWER FOR ALL battery that Bosch, Husqvarna Aspire and Gardena share. It runs on two 18V packs at once to drive a brushless motor and a 43 cm blade, with six central cutting heights from 30 to 75 mm, and the catcher holds 50 L with a magnetic deflector that lets you lift it off with one hand. The kit includes two 4.0Ah packs. The listing's title also promises a fast charger but its contents line does not, and Bosch Australia does not list this kit code, so check before ordering if you have no Bosch charger. Which? has reviewed this exact model but publishes its verdict only to members, and on Amazon AU the kit has a single owner review, so the evidence behind it is thinner than its specification. One owner of the bare-tool version notes there is no charge display on the mower and that the mulch plug clogs in long grass, so catch rather than mulch when it has got away from you. Bosch rates it at up to 600 m² on two 4.0Ah packs, measured on thin, dry grass, so expect less on a thick summer lawn. Consider the Greenworks 40V if you want a wider deck on one battery, or the STANLEY 51 cm if width per dollar matters more than the battery platform.

Pros
+ 43 cm brushless deck, the widest mower on the POWER FOR ALL battery
+ Runs on two 18V packs, the same ones that power Bosch green, Husqvarna Aspire and Gardena tools
+ Kit includes two 4.0Ah packs
+ 50 L catcher with a magnetic deflector for one-handed emptying
+ Sold and shipped by Amazon AU, with Bosch service in Australia
Cons
− One owner review on this kit listing and no scored critic review yet
− Needs both packs fitted to run at all
− No charge display on the mower, and the mulch plug clogs in long grass, by owner account
− 19.6 kg without batteries, a two-handed lift into a car
POWER FOR ALL 2x18VBrushless43cm DeckKit With 2 x 4.0Ah50L CatcherMulch Plug
A 46 cm brushless mower on a steel deck that catches, mulches or discharges, with seven cutting heights and a 4Ah pack and charger in the box. Australian retailers rate it at about 600 m² per charge on that pack.
Buy this one if your lawn is medium to large and you want one battery rather than two. It has a 46 cm steel deck on a brushless motor, seven cutting heights, and three ways to deal with clippings: a 50 L catcher, mulching or discharge. Australian retailers rate it at about 600 m² per charge on the 4Ah pack in the box, one of the few per-charge figures on this page tied to a stated battery, and CHOICE tested the same kit and scored it 82 out of 100. Two things count against it. The Amazon AU listing has no owner reviews yet, so the owner score is the category average. And at 21 to 24.5 kg without its battery, depending on the source, it is the heaviest mower here. Greenworks has no Australian website, so these figures come from Australian retailers, and they disagree on details such as weight and charge time. Consider the Bosch Rotak 18V2-43 if you are already on POWER FOR ALL, or the STANLEY 51 cm for the widest cut.

Cutting 9.6 (rubric 9.5): Card: 46 cm (8.5), plus 0.5 for the brushless motor and 0.5 for catch, mulch and discharge; no Australian source publishes the cutting heights in millimetres, so no low-cut bonus.

Handling 7.8 (rubric 7): Card: 21 to 24.5 kg without the battery across sources, scored on the higher figure (6.5), plus 0.5 for the 50 L catcher; no central height lever or upright storage is claimed in Australia.
Build 8.9 (rubric 8.5): Card: steel deck and brushless motor; Australian retailers quote a 2-year domestic warranty, but Greenworks has no Australian site for service or parts, so it stops short of the top anchor.

STANLEY FATMAX V20 2 x 18V Brushless 51cm Lawn Mower (Kit, 2 x 4.0Ah)
Our Verdict
The widest deck here at 51 cm, brushless, with catch, mulch and side discharge, a 40 L fabric catcher, and two 4.0Ah packs plus a charger in the box. The most cutting width on this list, if you can live with the weight.
Buy this one if you have a big lawn and want to get round it in as few passes as possible. A 51 cm deck is the widest on this page by a clear margin, and it is driven by a brushless motor running on two 18V V20 packs, both of which are in the box with a charger. It catches into a 40 L fabric bag, mulches or side-discharges, with five cutting heights from 25 to 60 mm by CHOICE's measurement (STANLEY publishes none), set with a lever on each axle, and the steel handle folds for upright storage. CHOICE scored this exact mower 84 out of 100, the highest CHOICE score of any mower here. Owners are more divided: 3.6 stars from 31 reviews. The positive ones praise the cut and the value, one noting five mows of a small yard per charge; two negative ones say it is heavy and awkward to push, and one had a front wheel break on the first mow. It is not self-propelled, so that weight is yours to move. Consider the Greenworks 40V if you want a lighter wide mower, or the Bosch Rotak 18V2-43 if your other garden tools are on POWER FOR ALL.

A compact 32 cm brushless mower on the 18V POWER FOR ALL battery, with a 35 L catcher and a mulch plug, sold as a bare deck. The best-established owner rating of any mower here, for anyone who already has the battery.
Buy this one if your lawn is small to medium and you already own an 18V POWER FOR ALL pack, from Bosch's green range, Husqvarna Aspire or Gardena. It is a brushless 32 cm mower with cutting heights from 25 to 65 mm, a 35 L catcher and a mulch plug in the box, and all five heights are set with one central lever. Owners rate it 4.4 stars from 99 reviews, the best-established owner rating of any mower here, though most of those reviews come from European Amazon stores. Which? has reviewed this exact model, but publishes its verdict only to members. The big caveat is in the title: this is the bare deck, with no battery or charger. If you have neither, add the cost of a 4.0Ah pack and charger before you compare it with the kits here, and know that one owner of the 34 cm sibling found a single 4.0Ah pack would not finish an average lawn. Bosch rates it for lawns up to 150 m², and up to 150 m² per charge on a 4.0Ah pack in thin, dry grass, so it is a small-lawn mower. Consider the Husqvarna kit if you need the battery anyway, or the Bosch EasyMower kit for the cheapest complete Bosch mower.

Pros
+ Brushless 32 cm mower, 4.4 stars from 99 owners, the best-established owner rating here
+ Runs on any 18V POWER FOR ALL pack, from Bosch green, Husqvarna Aspire or Gardena

POWER FOR ALL 18VBrushless32cm Deck35L CatcherMulch PlugBare Tool
The lightest and simplest mower here: a 32 cm deck that cuts down to 20 mm, with a folding handle and a 4.0Ah POWER FOR ALL pack and charger in the box. Made for small, fine lawns rather than thick buffalo.
Buy this one if you have a small lawn of fine grass, want a complete mower for the least outlay, and value light weight over power. It has a 32 cm deck with three cutting heights from 20 to 60 mm, set at each wheel, grass combs that reach edges along walls and fences, a 31 L catcher and a folding handle. The kit includes a 4.0Ah POWER FOR ALL pack and a charger, and that pack also runs the Husqvarna and Bosch Rotak mowers here. Going by Amazon's sales ranks it sells better than any other mower here, although Bosch has since dropped it from its Australian website, so treat it as run-out stock; Bosch's warranty still applies. The critics split: CHOICE scored it 83 out of 100 and Trusted Reviews 3.5 out of 5. Owners split too, at 3.8 stars from 53 reviews. The pattern in those reviews is clear: fine on a small, regularly mown lawn, and out of its depth in dense buffalo or grass much over 60 mm, where several owners say it stalls. Two also describe it as feeling like a plastic toy. Consider the Bosch Rotak 18V-32 if your lawn is thicker, since it is brushless, or the Husqvarna kit if quiet running and storage matter more than price.

A 36 cm mower on Kärcher's 18V battery with a 45 L catcher, a mulching kit in the box and a battery display that shows charge as you mow. The pick for anyone already running Kärcher 18V garden tools.
Buy this one if you already own Kärcher 18V packs, from its trimmer, hedge trimmer or the battery-powered home tools, and want a mid-size mower on the same battery. It cuts a 36 cm strip, with four central cutting heights from 30 to 70 mm, collects into a 45 L catcher, and comes with a mulching kit rather than making you buy one. Kärcher's real-time battery display shows charge remaining as you mow. Two critics have reviewed it: Trusted Reviews gave it 4 out of 5, tested with a 5.0Ah pack, and CHOICE 59 out of 100 for a bundle with the smaller 2.5Ah pack, which may say as much about the battery as the mower. Owners rate it 4.2 stars from 41 reviews, and the most common complaint is from buyers who did not notice it is the bare tool, so check that before you order. Kärcher publishes a per-charge figure that is easy to plan around: up to 175 m² on a 2.5Ah pack and 350 m² on a 5.0Ah. Stock was down to the last unit when we checked. Consider the Bosch Rotak 18V-32 if you are not already on Kärcher, since POWER FOR ALL packs run far more garden tools.

The makers' published figures, side by side, with the kit contents spelt out. Lowest cut matters for fine couch and zoysia lawns; per-charge area is given only where the maker publishes one.
Figures are the makers' own, from their Australian pages and manuals where those exist. STANLEY publishes no cutting-height range, so its figure is CHOICE's; Greenworks has no Australian site, so its figures come from Australian retailers. Lawn area is per charge on the pack shown, except Husqvarna and STANLEY, which quote a total lawn size. Weights are without the battery.
Already own a battery?
Which battery each mower takes
A mower kit's battery and charger can run the trimmer and blower too, and a bare deck is only a bargain if you already own the right packs. Here is what each pick runs on and what else shares it.
18V POWER FOR ALL (Bosch green, Husqvarna Aspire, Gardena)
Same packs run: The 18V tools of every POWER FOR ALL Alliance brand, including Bosch's green Universal, Easy and Advanced ranges, Husqvarna's Aspire range and Gardena. The Rotak 18V2-43 takes two packs at once. These packs do not fit Bosch's blue Professional tools or Bosch's green 36V tools.
Same packs run: Kärcher's 18V garden and home-cleaning tools; within the 18V class, Kärcher's Battery Power packs interchange. They do not fit Kärcher's 36V tools.
We score cordless lawn mowers on four dimensions written for this category. Cutting and deck starts from the cutting width the maker publishes, then credits a brushless motor, a lowest cutting height of 20 mm or less (which is what a fine couch or zoysia lawn needs) and the full set of ways to deal with clippings: catch, mulch and discharge. Coverage and battery scores what the listing includes, so a bare mower earns credit only for the breadth of its platform, while a kit earns more for each large pack and a charger in the box, and a published lawn area per charge earns a bonus. Handling and storage starts from the weight without a battery and credits central height adjustment, folding handles with upright storage and a large catcher. Build and support weighs the deck and wheels, the Australian warranty and whether blades and service are available here. The owner score is Amazon AU's star rating, which on some of these listings pools reviews from other Amazon stores, weighted toward the category average when there are few reviews; the critic score averages published reviews of the exact model where at least two exist. We do not physically test mowers. Where a maker does not publish a figure, the card says so rather than guessing one.
Scored on Cutting and deck 35%, Coverage and battery 25%, Handling and storage 20%, Build and support 20%, plus owner ratings and critic reviews
Measure the lawn itself, not the block: pace out each grassed area, multiply its length by its width and add them up, leaving out beds, paths and paving. A small back lawn of 100 to 150 m² sits comfortably inside one charge of any mower here. Past about 300 m², look at the wider decks, because a 43 to 51 cm mower takes fewer passes and is rated for far more area per charge. Then read the per-charge figures with care. Bosch's come from very thin, dry grass, Kärcher measures at its fourth cutting height, and Husqvarna and STANLEY quote a total lawn size rather than an area per charge. In a thick summer lawn expect noticeably less than any of those numbers, and plan on a second pack before you plan on a bigger mower.
Check the Lowest Height Against Your Grass
Turf guides agree on the method and disagree on the numbers. The method: never take more than a third of the leaf in one mow, drop the cut a notch in summer when the lawn is growing hard, and lift it in winter, which is Lawn Solutions Australia's advice. The numbers vary with the source. For soft-leaf buffalo and kikuyu, Lawn Solutions suggests 30 to 50 mm and Turf Australia 45 mm; for couch, 5 to 30 mm from Lawn Solutions and 30 mm from Turf Australia; for zoysia, anything from 10 mm to unmown for Sir Grange, and about 35 mm generally. WA's Water Corporation recommends far shorter summer cuts to save water, while the Queensland Government's water-saving advice is to keep grass at least 3 cm high. Whichever you follow, check the mower's lowest setting first: none on this page goes below 20 mm.
Brushless, Two Packs, and Why Thick Buffalo Stalls Small Mowers
A battery mower slows when the grass loads the blade, and how it copes is down to the motor and the voltage behind it. Brushless motors hold their speed better under load and waste less of the pack as heat, which is why five of the seven picks here use one. Two-pack mowers such as the Rotak 18V2-43 and the STANLEY 51 cm run two 18V batteries together to push a wider blade. The smallest brushed mower here, the Bosch EasyMower, is where owner reviews warn of stalling: several owners say it bogs down in dense or long buffalo and will not cope with grass much over 60 mm. If your lawn is thick buffalo or kikuyu and you sometimes let it go a fortnight, buy brushless, and mow little and often in summer rather than letting it get away.
Kits, Bare Decks and the Real Price of a Battery Mower
Five of the seven picks are kits and two are bare decks, and the battery is a large share of what a mower costs. A bare deck only makes sense if you already have the right packs: the Bosch Rotak 18V-32 takes the same 18V POWER FOR ALL packs as the Husqvarna, Gardena and other Bosch green tools, and the Kärcher takes Kärcher's 18V packs. Count what is in the box carefully. The STANLEY kit includes two 4.0Ah packs and a charger, the Bosch Rotak 18V2-43 kit includes two 4.0Ah packs, and the single-pack kits include one pack and a charger. A two-pack mower needs both batteries fitted to run at all, so a single spare pack does not turn it into a mower. One thing to check: the Rotak 18V2-43 listing's title promises a fast charger but its contents line lists only the two packs, and Bosch Australia does not list that kit code, so confirm with the seller if you have no Bosch charger already.
Catch, Mulch or Discharge in an Australian Summer
Catching gives the neatest finish and is the only sensible choice for a lawn that has got away from you, but it means emptying the catcher and filling the green bin. Mulching chops clippings finely and drops them back into the lawn, which returns moisture and nutrients and saves the bin; it works best when you take only a third of the leaf at a time, which in summer means mowing often. Side or rear discharge is for long grass on a big block. The STANLEY, the Greenworks and the Husqvarna do all three; the Bosch Rotak pair and the Kärcher catch or mulch with the plug or kit in the box; and the Bosch EasyMower only catches. In a dry summer, mulching or simply raising the cut is kinder to the lawn than scalping it short.
Weight, Storage and the Car-Boot Test
A battery mower's other big advantage over petrol is that it can live upright against a wall. Every pick here folds its handles, and three of them (the Husqvarna, the Rotak 18V2-43 and the STANLEY) also stand upright on their back edge to take a fraction of the floor space, which matters in a garage or a small shed. Weight matters twice: once when you push it up a slope or across a soft lawn, and again when you lift it into a car boot or up a step. The compact 32 to 36 cm mowers weigh 7.5 to 13.3 kg without a pack, while the wide decks run from about 14 kg for the STANLEY on its maker's figure (CHOICE and Mitre 10 list it heavier) to around 20 kg for the Bosch Rotak 18V2-43 and more for the Greenworks, and the STANLEY is still the one owners describe as hard work to push. If you have steps between the shed and the lawn, weigh that up before buying the widest deck.
Battery mowers stopped being the courtyard option a while ago. The seven here run from a 32 cm Bosch for a townhouse strip to a 51 cm STANLEY deck that will take on a sizeable suburban back lawn, and every one is sold and shipped by Amazon AU. What picks the right one is not the voltage printed on the deck. It is three things about your own yard: how much lawn there is, what grass it is, and which battery is already on the charger in the shed.
Start with the area, measured rather than guessed. Makers measure lawn area in very different ways, so treat every figure as a best case: Bosch rates its Rotak mowers on thin, dry grass, and Kärcher at a middle cutting height. Roughly, the 32 to 36 cm mowers here suit lawns of about 150 to 350 m² per charge, depending on the pack, and the wide two-pack and 40V mowers suit the bigger back lawns: Bosch rates the Rotak 18V2-43 at up to 600 m² on two 4.0Ah packs, Australian retailers rate the Greenworks at about 600 m² on its 4Ah pack, and STANLEY puts its 51 cm mower at lawns of up to 750 m². If your lawn needs more than one charge, a second battery is cheaper than a bigger mower.
Then the grass. Warm-season lawns grow fast through summer, and Australian turf guides such as myhomeTURF put buffalo and kikuyu on a five to ten day mowing cycle in the warmer months. Every guide agrees on one rule: take off no more than a third of the leaf at a time. They disagree on height, and widely. Lawn Solutions Australia suggests 30 to 50 mm for soft-leaf buffalo and kikuyu and 5 to 30 mm for couch, while WA's Water Corporation advises much shorter summer cuts to save water, 15 to 20 mm for buffalo and 10 to 12 mm for couch. That matters here because the lowest published setting on any mower in this list is 20 mm, on the Bosch EasyMower, and most stop at 25 to 30 mm, so none of them will give a couch or zoysia lawn the very short finish some of those guides describe.
Then the battery. Four of the seven run on 18V POWER FOR ALL packs, the shared standard behind Bosch's green garden range, Husqvarna's Aspire range and Gardena, so the pack that comes with the Husqvarna kit runs the Bosch mowers and the other way round. Two of the seven are two-pack mowers: the Bosch Rotak 18V2-43 and the STANLEY 51 cm each run on two 18V packs at once, which is how they reach a wide deck without moving to a separate 36V battery class. The panel under the spec table sorts every pick by the battery it takes and points to the trimmers and blowers that share it.
A few names are missing on purpose. Victa's Corvette Twin 18V mowers have just arrived on Amazon AU as bare decks with no owner reviews yet, and only the largest Victa pack was in stock when we checked, so there is no fair way to rank them until that settles. Ryobi, Ozito and EGO are Bunnings ranges and appear on Amazon only through resellers. Makita's battery mowers are listed by a marketplace seller at two to three times dealer price, and DeWalt's two-pack self-propelled mower only as an import. If one of those is the brand you want, a local dealer is the place to buy it.
Cordless Lawn Mowers — Frequently Asked Questions
How big a lawn will a cordless mower cut on one battery?+
Less than the box suggests, because every maker measures it in easy conditions. On a 4.0Ah pack Bosch quotes up to 150 m² for the Rotak 18V-32 and the EasyMower, measured on very thin, dry grass. Kärcher quotes 175 m² on a 2.5Ah pack and 350 m² on a 5.0Ah. Bosch rates the two-pack Rotak 18V2-43 at up to 600 m² on two 4.0Ah packs, and Australian retailers rate the Greenworks at about 600 m² on its 4Ah pack. Husqvarna and STANLEY give only a total lawn size, 500 m² and 750 m². Expect less in a thick, damp summer lawn, and if one charge falls short, a second pack is the cheaper fix.
What height should I mow buffalo, couch and kikuyu?+
Lawn Solutions Australia, a turf grower, suggests 30 to 50 mm for soft-leaf buffalo and kikuyu and 5 to 30 mm for couch, and Turf Australia, the industry body, gives single heights of 45 mm for buffalo and kikuyu, 30 mm for couch and 35 mm for zoysia. WA's Water Corporation recommends much shorter summer cuts to save water: 15 to 20 mm for buffalo, 12 to 16 mm for kikuyu and 10 to 12 mm for couch. Whatever height you choose, take off no more than a third of the leaf at once, mow a little lower in summer and higher in winter, and check that the mower goes that low: the lowest published setting on this page is 20 mm.
Do Bosch, Husqvarna Aspire and Gardena batteries really swap?+
Yes, for their 18V packs. All three are part of the POWER FOR ALL Alliance, a shared battery standard, so an 18V pack and charger from any of them run the 18V tools of the others: the pack in the Husqvarna kit runs both Bosch Rotak mowers here, and the pack in the Bosch EasyMower kit runs the Husqvarna. Two cautions. The Rotak 18V2-43 needs two 18V packs fitted at once, so a single pack will not run it. And Bosch's green 36V packs and blue Professional packs are separate systems that fit none of these mowers.
Is a battery mower strong enough for thick buffalo or kikuyu?+
The brushless and two-pack mowers here are, provided you keep up with the lawn. Thick buffalo and kikuyu are the hardest test for a battery mower, because the blade has to push through dense, springy runners, and that is where the smallest brushed mowers struggle: owners of the Bosch EasyMower report it stalling in dense buffalo and in grass over about 60 mm. Mowing every week or so in summer, raising the cut, and choosing a brushless motor make far more difference than voltage alone. For a big, thick lawn, look at the wide two-pack and 40V mowers rather than the 32 cm decks.
When am I allowed to mow?+
The state noise rules that cover leaf blowers name lawn mowers too, so the same hours apply to a battery mower even though it is far quieter than petrol. The safe weekday window is 7 am to 7 pm in every state except South Australia, where mowing starts at 8 am. Weekends are where people get caught: Victoria starts at 9 am on both days, Tasmania at 9 am on Saturday and 10 am on Sunday, and NSW at 8 am. Our leaf blower guide sets out every state's hours in full.
Should I buy a push mower or a robot mower?+
A robot mower suits a lawn that is evenly shaped, not too steep and big enough to justify the price, and it needs edges trimmed by hand either way. A cordless push mower suits small or awkward lawns, lawns with lots of beds and obstacles, and anyone who would rather spend a few hundred dollars than a few thousand. They also share batteries: Bosch's VisiMow robot runs on the same 18V POWER FOR ALL packs as the Bosch and Husqvarna mowers here. If you are weighing the two, our robot lawn mower rankings cover the robots on Amazon AU, with the same scoring approach.
